The City of Calgary's Cloud Program Manager Discusses Why "Cloud Matters" to Alberta's Largest Municipality

CALGARY, ALBERTA--(Marketwire - Oct. 10, 2012) - The Canadian Cloud Council announced their third national cloud conference - "Cloud Matters" last week to tremendous reception from the North American media, venture capital and cloud communities. The event will be held at the Rimrock Resort in Banff, Alberta on March 11 and 12, 2013 and is sponsored by Long View, IBM, Dell and Akamai.

"Cloud Matters" will feature panel presentations from Chris Moore, the CIO of City of Edmonton and Doug Hodgson, the CITO of City of Calgary. Harpreet Dhillon, the City of Calgary's Cloud and Open Source Program Manager, recently commented on why cloud matters to the largest city in Alberta.

"Cloud Computing caters to our evolving municipal technology needs, within our available resources and budgets" commented Mr. Dhillon. "Information Technology at The City of Calgary has been exploring innovative alternate service delivery models and has begun our journey in the adoption of cloud computing. "

"The City plans to be both a consumer and provider of cloud services in a hybrid or community cloud model. Collaboration with other civic partners, regional municipalities, provincial and federal partners is one of the key elements of our cloud adoption strategy. I am looking forward to '"Cloud Matters" providing and enabling a valuable networking and collaboration forum for Canada's cloud leaders and evangelists," concluded Dhillon.

"Cloud Matters" will also feature keynote presentations from Robert Herjavec, Star of CBC's "Dragon's Den" and ABC's "Shark Tank", Chris C. Kemp, CEO Nebula and Co-Founder Open Stack and Robin Beinfait, CIO Research in Motion. Speaking and sponsorship opportunities are still available for the event and can be inquired by emailing
