City, CUPE locals reach tentative agreements

Bargaining committees will recommend approval

CORNER BROOK, NEWFOUNDLAND AND LABRADOR--(Marketwired - Aug. 23, 2013) - The City of Corner Brook and the Canadian Union of Public Employees have reached a tentative agreement on new four-year contracts for workers of Local 706 (outside workers) and Local 768 (inside workers). The proposed collective agreements will be effective from January 1, 2013, to December 31, 2016, and will apply to 107 employees.

The bargaining committees for the union and the City will be recommending approval to their membership and to Corner Brook City Council, respectively. Union members will conduct a ratification vote early next week, and City Council will be asked to ratify the tentative agreements during the same time period. Details of the tentative agreements will not be released until they have been approved by both parties.

The settlement was achieved through the co-operative efforts and hard work of the two bargaining committees. Mayor Neville Greeley and Donna Ryan, CUPE National Repre- sentative recognized that flexibility from both sides was necessary in order to reach this tentative agreement, and expressed their mutual appreciation of both bargaining com- mittees for their efforts during the negotiation process.
