City of New Orleans & Delgado Community College Offering Energy Efficiency Training With CleanEdison

BPI Certification Training for Contractors Offered in Partnership With City of New Orleans

NEW ORLEANS, LA--(Marketwire - November 24, 2010) - As part of a bold new initiative to spur job growth and ensure New Orleans has a qualified workforce to implement energy efficiency incentive programs and policies throughout the state, Delgado Community College is offering energy efficiency certification training from the Building Performance Institute (BPI), in partnership with the City of New Orleans and CleanEdison, the nation's leading training firm dedicated to growing Green jobs across the country.

With the first classes starting December 6th, 2010, Delgado will continue its mission as a leader in energy efficiency and weatherization across the region. Having forged a strategic partnership with CleanEdison and the City of New Orleans Office of Community Development, Delgado will offer certification training from BPI to local contractors looking to perform energy audits and home efficiency retrofits. These credentials will be required for contractors to participate in a variety of state and local incentive programs for homeowners looking to reduce the amount of energy they use and save as much as 20-40% on their home energy bills.

"The City of New Orleans is proud to partner on the energy auditor trainings being held at Delgado Community College through CleanEdison," says John Moore with Mayor Mitch Landrieu's office. "These trainings are an integral part of our effort to reduce our City's energy consumption and advance the code enforcement process to address the more stringent laws that are being adopted in the upcoming energy codes."

Students who complete the training and pass the exams will be BPI-certified to conduct home energy audits and also offer advanced energy efficiency retrofits beyond basic weatherization practices. With these services, BPI professionals can help New Orleans homeowners stop wasting energy and start saving money. "At a time when people are struggling every day, energy efficiency is a necessary solution to our economic difficulties," says Lauren Carson, VP of Business Development for CleanEdison. "Not only are we training contractors to help folks bring down their home energy costs, but we're helping to push forward a whole new industry for this region that can create jobs, save homeowners money and reduce our energy usage -- it's really a triple-win."

Delgado and CleanEdison will offer courses in BPI Building Analyst Certification, BPI Envelope & Shell Professional and the new BPI Insulation & Air Sealing course essential for retrofit crews to learn the proper techniques for advanced home performance. Contractors interested in entering the energy efficiency services sector with BPI Certification should contact Delgado Community College Department of Workforce Development and Education at (504) 671-6457 or online at http://www.dcc.edu/divisions/workforce/index.html.
