City of Edmonton to Expand WiFi Service with Shaw Go WiFi Agreement

EDMONTON, ALBERTA--(Marketwired - May 23, 2013) - City of Edmonton and Shaw Communications announced today that Edmonton City Council has approved a proposed agreement that will see the Shaw Go WiFi network expand to public areas across the city.

The planned WiFi network will grant wireless Internet access to Shaw customers, Edmontonians and visitors alike when visiting areas throughout Edmonton popular for foot traffic and gathering, as well as LRT stations, facilities and libraries.

"Recent advances in digital communication are reshaping economies and societies of many cities around the world. Having readily available WiFi access in our city has become a necessity to be a fully digitally connected city," said Simon Farbrother, Edmonton City Manager. "Our relationship with Shaw provides a cost-effective way to provide our citizens with free online access from all important public and gathering locations across the City."

With the Edmonton Shaw Go WiFi network, customers and citizens will be able to browse the Internet and connect with friends from almost anywhere in the city on their wireless device.
