Clare County Office of Emergency Management Joins Nixle Notification Service

Nixle Connect Keeps Residents Informed Through Mobile Messaging

HARRISON, MI--(Marketwire - Dec 5, 2011) - Clare County Office of Emergency Management (OEM) announced it has joined the 4,600 other agencies across the nation who use Nixle's notification services to deliver important and timely information to residents. With no cost to the office, taxpayers, or residents, the new Nixle Connect is a cost-effective solution for all levels of government agencies.

Nixle Connect allows Clare County OEM to communicate with the public via text/SMS, e-mail, and Internet posts at no cost. Communications can range from emergency alerts to routine day-to-day information such as emergency preparedness tips and weather alerts.

"Nixle fills the gap of quick mobile messaging that today's society needs to stay informed and warned," commented Jerry Becker, Director of Clare County OEM. "Many of our residents only have mobile phones now, and Nixle allows us to send urgent messages to them without breaking the budget. To have to purchase a service to do what Nixle does would be cost prohibitive, leaving many residents uninformed."

Citizens can register to receive messages from Clare County OEM and other local agencies by sending a text message with their zip code to 888777. Online registration is also available at www.nixle.com.

"Emergency communications are extremely important for the safety of residents across the country, and that is why we offer Nixle Connect at no charge to public safety agencies and the public," stated Eric Liu, Nixle CEO. "We are thrilled to be welcoming Clare County OEM to Nixle and look forward to a successful relationship with them."

Currently more than 4,600 government agencies have adopted Nixle for their means of real-time communications with residents, and more than 660,000 citizens have signed up to take advantage of the service. Year-to-year usage figures from August 2010 through July 2011 show that participating agencies created a total of 72,782 messages or 6,065 per month. Over 17 million SMS text messages were sent during the 12-month period for an average of 1.4 million each month, and over 43.8 million e-mails were sent by government agency users, over 3.6 million a month.
