Claritas Receives Patent on System Developed for Customizing Online Commercial Transactions in Real Time

SAN DIEGO, CA -- (MARKET WIRE) -- May 26, 2005 -- Claritas Inc., the premier provider of intelligent marketing information and target marketing services, today announced it has been granted a patent by the United States Patent and Trademark Office for developing a system that customizes commercial transactions over the Internet in real time.

U.S. Patent No. 6,879,960 recognized Claritas' "innovative approach to advancing the online sales and marketing process," said Claritas President and CEO Robert Nascenzi, who is a co-inventor of the system.

Nascenzi said it was designed to tailor content, advertising and promotions to increase customer conversion rates and site revenues. Moreover, the system was further enhanced by Claritas' proprietary consumer segmentation systems, led by its signature product, PRIZM NE®.

In explaining how the system customizes transactions, the Abstract filed with the Patent Office stated that customer identification information is used to store an anonymous identification tag on the customer's computer -- in essence, a cookie that identifies the customer's segment code. "It is important to note, that in designing the system it was paramount that the identification tags be anonymous to insure the consumer's privacy," added Nascenzi.
