Cleankeys Closes Series-A Financing of $5 Million

EDMONTON, ALBERTA--(Marketwire - Aug. 4, 2011) - Edmonton-based Cleankeys Inc. today announced the successful closing of its Series-A financing round of $5 Million dollars. The company, a leader in the field of technology-based infection control solutions, will use the money to introduce its award-winning Cleankeys keyboard (a solid-surface keyboard that is easy to clean) to healthcare markets worldwide.

The company's solutions address the fourth leading cause of death in North America: healthcare-acquired infections (HAI). Studies have shown keyboards to be one of the most germ-infested surfaces – filthier even than toilet seats. In hospitals, where more than 100,000 North Americans die from HAI every year, Cleankeys will very likely help to save lives.

The technology was recently demonstrated to the visiting British Royal couple, Prince William and Princess Catherine, at the University of Calgary's Ward of 21st Century, where a study is being conducted into the effects of keyboard contamination in hospitals.

Carmella Duchscherer, Administrative Director the Ward of 21st Century states: "In doing research for this study, and through our own knowledge and observation, there appears to be evidence that the computer keyboards may become heavily contaminated as a common-touch surface in the hospital. It is our belief that disinfect-able keyboards, such as Cleankeys, can help reduce the spread of harmful bacteria in hospitals and other healthcare settings."

The financing round included a $1,000,000 commitment from AVAC Ltd. a Calgary company that invests in promising early-stage commercial businesses. Jacques LaPointe, Senior Investment Manager at AVAC states: "Cleankeys has demonstrated the value of their infection control solutions within dental operations in 26 countries, and AVAC is pleased to be able to help them attract investment capital to expand the deployment of their technology into broader healthcare operations."

Randy Marsden, CEO of Cleankeys Inc., agrees: "We are grateful and excited by the enthusiasm shown by all our investors; it's a huge validation of our technology and our team. Now we can't wait to execute our plan to expand our sales and marketing efforts into broader healthcare markets".
