LOS ANGELES, CA--(Marketwired - Mar 27, 2014) - Independent feature film "Cleaver's Destiny," a film that grapples with big issues in a subdued manner, has garnered top nods from the entertainment industry's two top organizations in health -- The Entertainment Industries Council, in the category of Mental Health for the 2014 Prism Awards and The Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration's (SAMHSA) Voice Awards program, which recognizes community leaders and TV and film professionals who educate the public about behavioral health. "Cleaver's Destiny" has been recognized as a feature film that portrays people with mental and/or substance use disorders who can and do recover and lead meaningful lives.

"Cleaver's Destiny" zeroes in on the topic of homeless veterans, and I am thrilled that as a filmmaker I have been able to bring awareness to this issue and honored to be recognized for my vision on the big screen," explains versatile director, producer and writer, and co-star Karl Lentini.

The story revolves around Amy Cleaver, a neglected teenager -- played by up-and-coming actress, Jenny Leona di Gennaro -- who is keen on finding her missing father, Bill -- played by Lentini, only to discover that he is a homeless First Gulf War veteran who has no recollection of her. Bill suffers from dementia and lives out his days, listlessly, on the streets of Los Angeles collecting bottles. Then begins a heart-rending journey, as his 18-year-old daughter takes him to people and places he once knew -- in a desperate attempt to rekindle the relationship with the father she never had.
