Cleveland's LineStream Technologies Commercializes Home-Grown Technology; Announces Engagement With Texas Instruments

The Fortune 200 Company Will Use LineStream's SpinTAC™ Software to Boost Performance and Slash Design Time in Motor-Related Products

CLEVELAND, OH--(Marketwire - Jul 12, 2011) - LineStream Technologies Inc., an innovator of software-based control solutions for the industrial automation industry, announced today that Texas Instruments Incorporated (TI) has licensed its newly released SpinTAC™ tuning and control technology. Deploying SpinTAC will provide TI's motor control customers with performance advantages and superior tools expected to dramatically shorten design cycles. Customers will include OEM manufacturers of motor-controlled products ranging from washing machines to medical equipment.

Locally, there is reason to celebrate LineStream's early business success. The innovative technology is the result of a 10-year development effort at Cleveland State University (CSU). LineStream has since refined, rigorously tested and commercialized the control technology to address the $10-billion opportunity to advance standard control methods that have been stagnant for more than 50 years.

"We are pleased to collaborate with TI to make it easier for developers to overcome traditional control design challenges," said Dave Neundorfer, president of LineStream. "TI's adoption of this technology also underscores the enormous potential for its rapid proliferation, which can support company growth and bring more skilled jobs to the Cleveland Area."

SpinTAC by LineStream features out-of-the-box control functionality that drastically simplifies the design process and sustains desired performance across varying speeds and dynamics. With today's existing controls, set-up is an imprecise trial-and-error process that demands months of design time. The result is often suboptimal performance, shortened component life and more costly hardware. LineStream's controls eliminate these problems by slashing set-up time and substantially improving performance.

"Smarter motors can save huge amounts of energy and cost, so TI is working to make sure developers have the microcontrollers, tools and software they need to get to market as fast as possible," said Chris Clearman, worldwide manager of motor solutions, Texas Instruments. "Our work with LineStream is an important element in that effort, as we integrate their technology to help our motor customers to make the world greener."

"It is with great pride and excitement to see the successful commercialization of LineStream's SpinTAC technology, which puts to practice a concept known as active disturbance rejection control," said Dr. Zhiqiang Gao, the Director of the Center for Advanced Control Technology (CACT) at CSU and LineStream Founder. "It is quite fitting to see this game-changing innovation for industrial and motor-controlled products come from a region that led the industrial revolution."
