Cleverbug Turns One, Announces $6 Million in Additional Funding

Delta Partners Leads Investment to Propel Social Gifting Company's Business Development and Further Expansion in U.S. Market

SAN FRANCISCO, CA--(Marketwired - Jan 30, 2014) - Cleverbug, social gifting company and makers of the popular CleverCards app, today announced a $6 million financing round led by Delta Partners, bringing its total equity investment to $8 million. Cleverbug's mission is to create fun and simple ways for people to celebrate holidays, milestones and meaningful everyday moments through cards and gifts.

"This time last year, Cleverbug was a simple birthday card iPhone app with elegant social graph technology. We never would have guessed that in a year we'd scale the product to such a degree that our users can now meaningfully celebrate almost every major holiday and every milestone with friends and family in minutes," said Kealan Lennon, CEO and founder of Cleverbug. "Our users love CleverCards, and in 2014, we're going to give them more of what they love, by continuing to improve the service and introduce new products."

The new financing is a significant milestone towards the company's goal of becoming the most popular social gifting company on the market. The capital will help to accelerate the next phase of business development, further expansion in the U.S. market, and new product developments.

Since its launch in January 2013 as a birthday card app, Cleverbug has become available on iOS, Android and the web, the company grew its offering to include all major U.S. holidays, and the product was featured on the TODAY Show with Hoda Kotb and Kathie Lee Gifford. Cleverbug's flagship product, CleverCards, uses proprietary algorithms that leverage its users' Facebook connections to create beautiful, high-quality greeting cards and send them anywhere in the world. With 75 printing facilities worldwide and the largest global footprint of any card company out there, this latest financing round will help to ensure that Cleverbug continues to make a product that can serve its growing global customer-base.

Additionally, on the heels of announcing a partnership with the American Kennel Club's all new online destination, WOOFipedia, Cleverbug will look ahead in 2014 to bolster its customer acquisition and partnerships as a content publishing platform, by offering a channel where brands can share and monetize social content like never before.

"We are very impressed with the outstanding work by the Cleverbug team in bringing a much-loved product to the market, and the red-hot social gifting category," said Maurice Roche of Delta Partners. "We're proud to be part of the company's next phase of product and business development, as it moves toward its audacious vision to be the largest social gifting company in the world."

Cleverbug's CleverCards app has been downloaded in over 150 countries, and has more than 50 million friends within its CleverBook system, catalogued both from Facebook and non-Facebook family & friends that users have manually loaded into the app. CleverCards is available to download in the Apple App Store and Google Play Market, and at CleverCards.com.
