CliqSearch Raises Angel Financing and Launches the Beta Version of Its Social Knowledge Engine and Directory With Over 1 Million Business Listings

PHILADELPHIA, PA--(Marketwire - Jan 17, 2012) - CliqSearch ( has raised approximately $1 million in Angel financing and launched the Beta version of its web application which enables users to easily search for local businesses and discover relevant social data that have been shared by their friends and friends of friends such as Facebook Likes, Foursquare Check-Ins, Twitter Followers, and comments to help them make better decisions on places to go, things to do or services to use. The site has over 540,000 unique user relationships being constantly updated comprising over 100 million social data points and growing.

When a user signs in with Facebook, Twitter, or Foursquare, CliqSearch indexes his or her social data and makes it "searchable." CliqSearch allows users to search and discover how they are connected to over 1 million US businesses based on the quantity and quality of existing social data shared within their social networks. The engine also stays up to date with near real time updating of social data for each user. CliqSearch also enhances business listings with additional insight by analyzing big data social sets.

Founder and CEO Alex Pooyan Khorram said, "The idea to build CliqSearch came from having been misled by a positive review posted on-line by an anonymous source. Most people are thinking the same thing when reading these reviews on sites like Yelp, TripAdvisor, and Angie's List. Was this review written by a competitor, a customer with an axe to grind, or someone whose taste is so different that I don't care? CliqSearch allows each of us to tap into the unique collective knowledge of our friends and friends of friends. Whether I'm looking for a good 'brunch in Philadelphia' or a 'plumber in NYC,' I'm looking for answers from trusted sources and I don't want to go on an expedition to find it."

Since CliqSearch results include data from first (Facebook friends) and second (friends of friends on Facebook) order relationships ("Social Results"), each user's search results will significantly improve as more friends join. "Most self-proclaimed social apps don't offer any additional product benefits when more friends join. With CliqSearch, the positive network effects are rather obvious; the more friends you invite to join, the more data we index and make searchable for you," said Khorram.

CliqSearch is creating a listing for every US business with a social media presence, developing a mobile app, and integrating with Google+ and LinkedIn in the near future.

CliqSearch is based in Philadelphia.
