Close to 60,000 Expected to Participate and Inspire Across Ontario in the 2014 Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation CIBC Run for the Cure

Foundation to raise funds in support of innovative breast cancer research

TORONTO, ONTARIO--(Marketwired - Oct. 5, 2014) - Close to 60,000 people will gather in 30 communities across Ontario on Sunday, October 5, 2014, with the singular vision of creating a future without breast cancer at the 23rd annual Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation CIBC Run for the Cure. In Toronto alone, close to 15,000 participants will unite at the University of Toronto, St George (Downtown) Campus.

The CIBC Run for the Cure is Canada's largest single-day, volunteer-led, national event dedicated to raising funds for breast cancer research, health education and advocacy programs across Ontario and the rest of Canada. The funds raised at this event help to support innovative research that includes explorations of the genetic causes of breast cancer that could lead to improved risk assessment of women, as well as tailored prevention and treatment options.

"Every year the CIBC Run for the Cure unites Canadians from coast to coast with a shared vision of a future without breast cancer. And while we've made great progress over the past 23 years, we can't stop now," says Sandra Palmaro, co-CEO of the Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation. "Breast cancer continues to be the most commonly diagnosed cancer among Canadian women. The CIBC Run for the Cure gives families, friends, and supporters the opportunity to join together in honouring their loved ones, and making a difference."

CIBC, the title sponsor of the CIBC Run for the Cure since 1997, has seen first-hand the growth this event has undergone since it began, and knows how important every dollar raised is to the vital work being done by the Foundation.

"Breast cancer continues to touch the lives of so many Canadian families every day," says Christina Kramer, Executive Vice-President, CIBC and CIBC's Executive Run Sponsor. "That is why the CIBC Run for the Cure - and the funds we raise together - are still so critically important. We invite everyone to run, walk, volunteer and donate on October 5 to help make a future without this disease possible."

This year's CIBC Run for the Cure in Toronto is excited to welcome Cynthia Mulligan from CityNews as emcee; the Honourable Kathleen Wynne, Premier of Ontario; Kathy Phillips - Dance/Pop Music Artist singing the National Anthem and a breast cancer survivor; and Dr. Raymond Reilly - Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation funded researcher.
