Cloud Foundry Sees Strong Momentum in Asia Pacific

Strong Community Contributions and Commercial Adoption in the Region Advances Opportunities for PaaS Developers and Users

SHANGHAI, CHINA--(Marketwired - Dec 2, 2015) - CLOUD FOUNDRY SUMMIT ASIA -- Cloud Foundry Foundation, home of the industry standard Platform-as-a-Service (PaaS), kicked off its first Asian Summit today with news of significant development progress and strong community growth across Asia Pacific. More than 400 application developers, IT operations experts, business leaders and service providers are attending this week's Summit in Shanghai.

Attendee are getting a first look at IBM Bluemix Local which expands the availability of IBM's hybrid Cloud capabilities to China. Built on Cloud Foundry, Bluemix Local brings Chinese enterprises and developers the speed and ease of app development on Bluemix behind a client's firewall.

Summit attendees have a unique opportunity to learn how software engineers at Zhejiang University are using Cloud Foundry to develop the PaaS cloud platforms that power China's smart city initiatives. They also are exploring how Huawei and others are using Cloud Foundry to speed business innovation.

"Contributions from Asia Pacific have been powerful," said Cloud Foundry Foundation CEO Sam Ramji. "We're seeing significant commercial Cloud Foundry offerings being developed here. The jump to PaaS is multiplying the efficiency of developers, and companies like Huawei, Fujitsu, Anchora, and Telstra are applying Cloud Foundry in unique ways that fit their specific markets."

Since the independent Cloud Foundry Foundation launched earlier this year, development progress continues to accelerate, most recently resulting in new native support for Docker and .NET. The project has seen dramatic increases in developer contributions as foundation membership worldwide has surged to more than 50 organizations. In Asia Pacific, NIA Korea is the latest member to join the Foundation joining Anchora, Fujitsu, Hitachi, Huawei, NTT, Telstra and Toshiba in strengthening the Foundation's presence across the region. The Cloud Foundry user community in Asia Pacific continues to expand as well, with 53 self-organized local groups, attracting more than 10,000 members across Australia, China, India, Japan, Korea, Singapore and Thailand.
