Cloudmark and AdaptiveMobile Join Forces to Fight Mobile Content Abuse

Cloudmark Partners With AdaptiveMobile to Deliver Subscriber-Specific Mobile Content Security to Mobile Operators

MONTE CARLO--(Marketwire - June 5, 2007) - GLOBAL MESSAGING 2007 -- Cloudmark, Inc., the global leader in carrier-grade messaging security, today announced a partnership with AdaptiveMobile to deliver scalable, network-based mobile content security to combat the growing threat of mobile email spam and mobile messaging abuse over SMS and MMS. The Cloudmark and AdaptiveMobile solution combines Cloudmark's sophisticated message fingerprinting technologies with AdaptiveMobile's subscriber-level mobile content filtering, deployed as a security filtering overlay over a mobile operator's existing infrastructure. Subscriber-level content filtering enables the mobile network operator to provide parental controls against mobile messaging abuse such as pornographic content. Additionally, it reduces unwanted traffic over the mobile network, freeing bandwidth for legitimate content.

Mobile network operators are deploying mobile content security in order to protect their diverse subscriber bases against a wide range of established and emerging threats. Growing regulatory and legal concerns over unrestricted access to content, coupled with parental concern over inadvertent and uncontrolled use by their children, are driving mobile operators to take a more proactive position on subscriber security and safety. By using AdaptiveMobile's unique bearer-agnostic mobile security solution, operators are able to take advantage of Cloudmark's security technologies across all data bearers while also allowing for customization by individual subscribers as to what is and is not acceptable to them, thereby reducing the liabilities to operators. The combined solution allows the operator to offer, for example, new child-friendly messaging services as a competitive differentiator.

"With email abuse representing between 80-96 percent of all email, and mobile spam already a bigger problem than desktop spam in advanced mobile data markets in Asia Pacific, network operators in North America and Europe are seeing a looming threat as they put more email and data-capable phones into the hands of subscribers," said Jacinta Tobin, VP worldwide sales and business development at Cloudmark. "The challenge is not just that mobile messaging abuse is costing subscribers upwards of $5 each month in excess data charges or presenting a security risk with viruses being sent as attachments over MMS, but that the operator loses the all-important trust of the subscriber. By partnering with AdaptiveMobile, we are enabling operators to keep control over their network at a time when they are looking to launch increasingly sophisticated mobile data services."

"Protecting mobile usage is key for operators' mobile data revenue growth and avoiding the commoditization that has damaged fixed network operators. New mobile applications and services, such as targeted advertising and mobile search, are becoming increasingly important to operators as they look to grow new revenue streams," said Gareth Maclachlan, chief operating officer, AdaptiveMobile. "Providing consistent controls on mobile content across all bearers while recognizing the different cultural preferences and permissions of an individual subscriber will allow operators to generate revenues and increase loyalty through services such as parental and corporate controls. Our partnership with Cloudmark is a key element of AdaptiveMobile's approach to cross-bearer subscriber-centric mobile security filtering."

Cloudmark protects networks from all forms of messaging threats, keeping service provider infrastructure and subscriber mailboxes clear of unwanted traffic by blocking spam, virus and phishing attacks in real time. Cloudmark's highly sophisticated Advanced Message Fingerprinting™ technology uses application and language-agnostic threat analysis, looking at the core structure and content of the message rather than text, enabling it to detect threats in any form, format or language.

AdaptiveMobile's unified software protects mobile users across all cellular technologies, security threats and media type. This includes protection of minors as well as against illegal or inappropriate content, viruses and malware, unsolicited messaging, unauthorized communications and extending corporate security policies to mobile assets. It works across all bearers including WAP, SMS, MMS and WiMax for all media including mobile internet, text, images, music, voice and video. This unified protection helps to ensure the growth of data ARPU for mobile and convergent operators.
