CloudShare Provides Instant, On-Demand Multi-Machine SharePoint 2010 Environments in the Cloud

Ready-to-Use Production-Grade SharePoint Farms Enable Easy Testing, Development and Demos

SAN MATEO, CA--(Marketwire - March 1, 2011) - CloudShare today announced that pre-configured, production-grade SharePoint farms, which enable developers, consultants and architects to easily create instant test bed environments in the cloud prior to moving into production, are available. Removing the traditional barriers of server configuration and existing IT infrastructure limitations, CloudShare users can now immediately launch into a production-grade, multi-machine environment with a simple point and click.

Today, organizations wanting to adopt, develop or migrate SharePoint applications are challenged in preproduction with everything from outdated environments to improper configuration. And spinning up a new SharePoint farm -- which typically consists of multiple machines including SharePoint, SQL Server, Active Directory and other tools, bound together by a single configuration database -- is complex. Various factors must be taken into consideration when building a reliable and flexible environment, from performance and design to scalability.

As part of today's announcement, CloudShare published permanent links for the most widely used SharePoint farms -- off-the-shelf complete, running farm instances. Users need to do nothing more than click on the permalink to launch into a SharePoint farm to begin their own fully configured environment. There are no physical servers, install, recoding or machine set-up required, and they can use the permalink over and over again, or save the environment as their own. The environments, all which have Office 2010 and Visual Studio, include:

  • SharePoint 2010 Enterprise with a 3-server farm configuration: SharePoint 2010, Active Directory and SQL Server
  • SharePoint 2010 Enterprise with a 2-server configuration: Exchange 2010 and SharePoint 2010 (classic Information Worker set-up)
  • SharePoint 2010 Enterprise with a 4-server configuration: Active Directory, SQL Server, SharePoint 2010 Application Server and SharePoint 2010 Web Front End (WFE)

Developed with input from certified SharePoint experts, the farms mirror widely used configurations and best practices. They can be immediately accessed at http://www.cloudshare.com/permalinks.

Kris Wagner, a Microsoft SharePoint Server MVP who has used the pre-configured SharePoint environments on CloudShare, explained: "For preproduction and demo work, CloudShare's instant SharePoint 2010 virtual machines creation process delivers a fully functional, cloud-based multi-server environment in minutes. As a consultant, I need to build and customize enterprise environments with little or no notice, and CloudShare has saved me time and money in non-billable hours. CloudShare just works!"

Uri Gilad, director of product management for CloudShare said, "We built the farms in response to the needs of our customers -- there's no more wasted time because the hard work is already done. We've included the servers, the complex networking and everything else that's needed to build a test bed environment. We want to make it easy and fast to develop and test SharePoint -- and any other business application -- using the benefits of our cloud platform."
