Clover® Brewer Helps El Salvador School Fine-Tune the Art of Coffee

Global Search Yields El Salvador School of Coffee as the 2008 Clover-at-Origin Recipient, Selected by Elysian Coffee and The Coffee Equipment Company

SEATTLE, WA--(Marketwire - March 14, 2008) - Each year, The Coffee Equipment Company partners with its top equipment reseller to place one of its revolutionary brewers at a quality-obsessed organization in a coffee-growing region. By donating a Clover® to a worthy organization, this annual program makes it possible for specialty coffee producers -- such as the farmers, mills, co-ops and others -- to better understand how consumers experience their coffee. This year's recipient, the El Salvador School of Coffee®, was selected for its dedication to furthering local and international awareness (and consumption) of El Salvadoran coffees with comprehensive, "hands-on" educational and training programs.

"The Clover-at-Origin program is our way of showing appreciation for all of the hard work at origin. We're especially excited to see El Salvador receive the machine; it's great recognition of their quality coffees," said Zander Nosler, Coffee Equipment Company co-founder. "Since its inception, the El Salvador School of Coffee has been promoting coffee education at each step in the chain -- they were an ideal nominee and we are happy to provide a Clover to such a deserving institution."

The El Salvador School of Coffee was nominated by Elysian Coffee, who sold more Clover brewers than any other reseller in 2007, earning them the right to nominate a worthy organization for the Clover-at-Origin program. Elysian Coffee is a boutique coffee consulting and retail company based in Vancouver, Canada. Recognized for fanatical devotion to coffee quality, Elysian has focused its efforts across Canada, placing Clovers from Halifax to Victoria with some of the nation's most progressive coffee retailers. El Salvadoran coffees have featured prominently on the Elysian single-origin coffee menu, the Finca Monterey Bourbon being a most recent favorite.

"The Clover will be a great tool for our school," stated Ricardo Espitia, the executive director of the Salvadoran Coffee Council and the El Salvadoran School of Coffee. "We will now be able to better educate our students on how premium coffees should be prepared. It will not only further strengthen preparation and production skills, but also the coffee culture as a whole here in El Salvador."

The El Salvador School of Coffee was established in 2007 with a vision to become the most respected coffee training center in the region. The School has already trained more than 1,300 students, with educational programs ranging from roasting to barista training, from cupping and quality management to marketing and business planning. Each course is designed to advance El Salvador's global future in the coffee industry. The Clover is currently set to be installed in the School's tasting room in April 2008, just in time for students and visitors to sample the 2008 Cup of Excellence nominees.

The "Clover-at-Origin" program was developed by The Coffee Equipment Company in response to their customers' dedication and support for the countries of origin. These roasters and retailers understand the amount of work needed to build equity between producing and consuming countries. They point out that many producers have never tried their own coffees brewed on the equipment used in the consuming countries. Given the opportunity to do so, producers better understand how to deliver the qualities consumers seek. The full circle built by the program helps raise quality, providing higher prices for the producers' beans and better coffees for all.
