Club de chasse et peche Sainte-Marie de Beauce Inc. Receives $102,000 in Funding From Government of Canada for New Equipment

FRAMPTON, QUEBEC--(Marketwire - Dec. 4, 2010) - Acting on behalf of the Honourable Denis Lebel, Minister of State for Canada Economic Development, the Honourable Maxime Bernier, Member of Parliament for Beauce, announced the awarding of $102,000 in non-repayable funding to Club de chasse et pêche Sainte-Marie de Beauce Inc. through the Community Diversification program for the acquisition of a new snow grooming machine.

"The Beauce is an ideal spot for snowmobiling. By supporting this sector, the Government of Canada is fostering the region's growth while helping to structure the local tourism offering," explained MP Bernier.

Club de chasse et pêche Sainte-Marie de Beauce handles the upkeep of 266 kilometres of snowmobiling trails, 100 kilometres of which are part of the Trans-Québec network. The new equipment is essential for the organization to be able to provide users with safe and accessible trails that meet snowmobile industry standards.

This project is expected to help the Chaudière-Appalaches region, which has 24 snowmobiling clubs operating on its territory, consolidate the gains it has already made in the sector. Indeed, organized snowmobiling generated some $37 million in economic spinoffs for the region in the 2007-2008 season, benefiting such local businesses as hotels, restaurants and equipment rental shops, among others. Moreover, Club de chasse et pêche Sainte-Marie de Beauce will be lending its efforts to those deployed by regional economic stakeholders to promote and strengthen the positive reputation the province's 33,500-kilometre snowmobiling network enjoys, particularly in the New England states.

Tourism development is a priority for the Government of Canada. Indeed, in its economic action plan, the federal government set aside $40 million in funding over two years to help the Canadian Tourism Commission in its efforts to successfully promote the country's industry on national and international markets.
