CME Launches B3 Border Coalition

WASHINGTON, DISTRICT OF COLUMBIA--(Marketwire - Dec. 6, 2010) - Canadian Manufacturers & Exporters today announced the launch of B3 – Businesses for a Better Border – a coalition of North America's largest manufacturers with cross-border operations. B3 is unique in that it will be comprised of validated members of trusted shipper programs such as US Customs and Border Protection's C-TPAT program and Canadian Border Services Agency's Partnership in Protection (PIP) program.

The goal of this coalition is to collaborate with border agencies on ways to provide "bottom line" returns for their collaboration with border agencies and to provide the business leadership on new incentives for trusted shipper members. These companies were among the first in 2001 to heed the call from Ottawa and Washington to partner with border agencies on the war against terrorism.

"This is not simply a border initiative – this is a manufacturing initiative," says Myers. "Now is the time to help the economic engine of both countries, a sector that drives job creation and export growth and ultimately, North American manufacturing competitiveness."

A multi-faceted meeting today between Commissioner of US Customs and Border Protection, Alan Bersin and Canadian Manufacturers & Exporters' Washington representative, Birgit Matthiesen led to the creation of the coalition.

Myers will be travelling to Washington December 8 to discuss North American competitiveness. During the visit, he will be sharing B3's goals with leaders of the US business community.
