CMHC Says Home Starts Up in Brantford

TORONTO, ONTARIO--(Marketwire - Jan. 11, 2011) - Preliminary data released today by CMHC show that there were over 500 new home starts in the Brantford Census Metropolitan Area (CMA) last year. Starts were up as compared to the last two years, with over 100 starts each quarter. Much of the increase came from a boost in townhouse starts in the City of Brantford. In addition, a number of rental apartment units were also started in the city this year.

Comparing the fourth quarters of 2010 and 2009, new home starts were up almost 25 per cent.

"While single-detached homes continue to sustain the new home market in Brantford, there were more townhouses added to the new home market this year," said CMHC's Senior Market Analyst for Hamilton and Brantford. "Both freehold and condominium townhouses have attracted interest from homebuyers in Brantford," added Fong.
