CN champions child health and safety through $1 million donation to Children's Memorial Hospital of Chicago

CHICAGO, ILLINOIS--(Marketwire - April 22, 2008) - CN (TSX:CNR) (NYSE:CNI) announced today that it has donated $1 million to Children's Memorial Hospital. This gift will be directed to the hospital's Safe Kids Chicago program and the Ann & Robert H. Lurie Children's Hospital of Chicago, scheduled to open in 2012. In recognition of this gift, Children's Memorial will name a space in the Emergency Department of the new facility: the CN Triage Area.

"At CN, we are deeply committed to helping build stronger communities to provide a healthier and safer environment for our youth," said E. Hunter Harrison, CN's president and chief executive officer. "Like CN, Children's Memorial Hospital is an important part of the Chicago community and a leader in its field. With this donation, we are proud to support the Safe Kids Chicago program and to ensure its expansion throughout the Chicago area and beyond to help provide a safer place for children to live and play."

The CN Triage Area at the new Ann & Robert H. Lurie Children's Hospital of Chicago, will be the first stop for a projected 67,000 children who will be treated in the emergency room, providing the first experience towards hope, healing and world-class care for patients and families in need of emergency attention.

"We are delighted with CN's contribution to Safe Kids Chicago and its donation of valuable funds that will be available to assist with the construction of the new Ann & Robert H. Lurie Children's Hospital of Chicago," said Thomas J. Sullivan, president of the Children's Memorial Foundation. "It is encouraging to have partners in the business sector like CN that share the desire to ensure the safety, health and well-being of the children and families of our community."

The Safe Kids Chicago program educates families to promote health and reduce risk, preventable injuries and fatalities. The primary goals of this program are to educate families about safety through pedestrian and bicycle, child passenger seat, home and rail safety workshops.

CN has been promoting railroad safety for more than 25 years through its All Aboard for Safety community education program. Every year, CN Police officers make hundreds of All Aboard for Safety presentations and talk to more than 300,000 children and adults at schools and community events in the United States and Canada about the importance of safety and the dangers of walking and playing on or near railroad tracks. Part of the strength of this program is the collaborative relationship with major community safety partners: Operation Lifesaver, Safe Kids USA, Safe Communities America, and Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD).
