CN locomotive engineers in Canada ratify five-year collective agreements

MONTREAL, QUEBEC--(CCNMatthews - July 4, 2005) - CN and the Teamsters Canada Rail Conference (TCRC) announced today the ratification of two five-year collective agreements by TCRC members.

The agreements provide wage, benefit and quality of work-life improvements to TCRC members. One agreement applies to CN locomotive engineers across Canada, while the other agreement covers engineers working on CN's Northern Quebec Territory (NQT). Nationally, the TCRC has roughly 1,600 active members at CN, with 1,490 in freight service. Its NQT unit represents roughly 65 CN employees.

E. Hunter Harrison, president and chief executive officer of CN, said: "The TCRC contract ratifications represent a milestone for CN, bringing to a close national labour negotiations in Canada. CN has renewed eight labour contracts, the majority of which expired at the end of 2003. With bargaining complete, management and unions across the company today now are focused squarely on providing our customers with superior transportation service."

Gilles Halle, president of the TCRC, said: "These agreements are good for our members, who voted in record numbers to approve them. The five-year term of the contracts assures long-term labour stability for the company's locomotive engineers - a clear benefit to our members, to CN and the rail industry, and to the businesses and commuter agencies that rely on CN for dependable transportation."

Canadian National Railway Company spans Canada and mid-America, from the Atlantic and Pacific oceans to the Gulf of Mexico, serving the ports of Vancouver, Prince Rupert, B.C., Montreal, Halifax, New Orleans, and Mobile, Ala., and the key cities of Toronto, Buffalo, Chicago, Detroit, Duluth, Minn./Superior, Wis., Green Bay, Wis., Minneapolis/St. Paul, Memphis, St. Louis, and Jackson, Miss., with connections to all points in North America.
