CNSC Public Hearing and Participant Funding for the Darlington Nuclear Generating Station Licence Renewal

OTTAWA, ONTARIO--(Marketwired - March 10, 2014) - The CNSC will hold a local community public hearing, in November 2014, to consider an application from Ontario Power Generation (OPG) to renew the Darlington Nuclear Generating Station (NGS) operating licence. OPG has requested a licence valid from January 1, 2015 until December 1, 2028, covering the period required to complete the proposed refurbishment of all four Darlington NGS units. A revised notice, confirming the date and location, and providing information on how to participate, will be issued at a later date.

Through its Participant Funding Program (PFP), the CNSC is offering funding to assist members of the public, Aboriginal groups, and other stakeholders in reviewing OPG's application and other relevant documentation specifically related to the application.

Participant funding up to $75,000 is being offered for the provision of new, distinctive and valuable information, through informed and topic-specific interventions. This funding must be used to prepare for and participate in the Commission's public hearing.

The deadline for submitting a completed participant funding application form to the CNSC is April 28, 2014.
