CNSC: Revised Notice of Public Hearing

OTTAWA, ONTARIO--(CCNMatthews - Dec. 13, 2006) - On November 20, 2006, the Canadian Nuclear Safety Commission (CNSC) announced a one-day public hearing on the Environmental Assessment Guidelines (EA Guidelines) regarding Ontario Power Generation Inc.'s (OPG) proposal for the refurbishment and life extension of the Pickering B nuclear generating station located in the City of Pickering, Ontario. The CNSC announces revisions to the date of availability of the EA Guidelines and to the deadline to submit interventions on the matter.

One-Day Hearing: January 24, 2007

Place: CNSC Public Hearing Room, 14th floor, 280 Slater Street, Ottawa, Ontario

Public hearings follow the agenda published prior to the hearing date.

A Screening Environmental Assessment of the proposed project must be conducted pursuant to the Canadian Environmental Assessment Act (CEAA) before the CNSC can proceed with a decision on a licence application from OPG.

Draft EA Guidelines were issued for public comment on September 5, 2006, and the comment period closed on October 13, 2006. The revised EA Guidelines, taking public comments into account, and OPG's submission are available to the public as of December 5, 2006.

The public is invited to comment on the revised EA Guidelines. Requests to intervene must be filed with the Secretary of the Commission by January 5, 2007 at the address below. The request must include the following information, as per the CNSC Rules of Procedure:

- a written submission of the comments to be presented to the Commission;

- a statement setting out whether the requester wishes to intervene by way of written submission only or by way of written submission and oral presentation; and

- name, address and telephone of the requester.
