Co-operative Housing Federation of Canada: Craig Kielburger in London This Week for Co-operative Housing Annual Meeting

LONDON, ONTARIO--(CCNMatthews - June 9, 2006) - Craig Kielburger, founder of Free the Children, is the special guest speaker at the Co-operative Housing Federation of Canada's (CHF Canada) Annual General Meeting. The meeting is taking place June 8-10 at the London Convention Centre. Kielburger will speak Saturday, June 10 at 9:30 am in the London Convention Centre ballroom.

Eleven years ago, at the age of 12, Kielburger started an international campaign to rescue children around the world from slave labour. This year he won the World's Children Prize for the Rights of the Child - a prize often called the Children's Nobel Prize.

Kielburger will speak about the work housing co-ops are already doing in their communities and how co-ops - and the young people living in them - can make a lasting impression in the lives of those they are trying to help. He asks young people to, "help with any issue that they are passionate about. When you are passionate about something you are more inclined to take action on the issue."

The 700 delegates from housing co-ops across Canada will also have a chance to hear from Dame Pauline Green, a former member of the European Parliament, the chief executive of Co-operatives UK and the president of the International Co-operative Alliance (ICA) Europe. She will bring greetings from the ICA, an independent, non-governmental association which unites, represents and serves co-operatives worldwide.

CHF Canada is the national federation for Canada's more than 2,000 housing co-ops, which provide over 90,000 homes for low and middle-income households. The 57 housing co-ops in London and the surrounding area are welcoming co-op members from across Canada to the AGM.
