Coalition First Coworking Space in Boston to Accept Bitcoin

BOSTON, MA--(Marketwired - Jul 1, 2014) - Last week, Coalition became the first coworking space in Boston and the New England area to accept Bitcoin. The announcement circulated with excitement during Coalition's launch party on June 25, which showcased the Downtown location with music, networking, and great views of the city.

For Coalition, accepting Bitcoin in addition to US Dollars signals a sense of forward-thinking to companies involved in Boston's wave as a hub of 21st Century entrepreneurship. "We noticed a number of prospective members showing interest in being involved with the Bitcoin ecosystem. When asked if we could accept Bitcoin, we decided to figure out a way to accommodate," said co-founder Farhan Abbasi. Coalition's first member to pay with Bitcoin was member firm JoMI.

The launch party was sponsored by TriNet and LabUSA, and attended by 250 members of the Boston small business community including companies affiliated with PayPal's StartTank, MassChallenge, and the MIT Enterprise Forum.

Speakers included Woody Benson, a prolific venture capital investor and an Entrepreneur-In-Residence at Bentley University, and Gregory O'Keefe, a venture capital partner at Boston Global Ventures who is also a Coalition member. To thank the packed crowd, Coalition raffled free memberships for Coalition to local startups, along with gift certificates for local businesses such as Uno Due Go, Petit Robert, and SUP Exploration.

The local response has been strong, and in just three short months, Coalition's team is already looking to expand in the area. Drawing on a decade of experience building coworking spaces in New York and Chicago, Coalition boasts a collaborative and connected network of member companies in all three cities.

Coalition is on the nineteenth floor of the popular 101 Arch Street building, neighboring the Macy's building, with direct underground access to Downtown Crossing and South Station. Strategically located between Kendall Square and the Seaport District, Coalition is surrounded by restaurants, theaters and other Boston attractions.
