Coast Capital Savings Recognized as an Exceptional Workplace

SURREY, BRITISH COLUMBIA--(CCNMatthews - June 5, 2006) - Recognized for providing a supportive and progressive work environment, Coast Capital Savings has been honoured with the 2006 YWCA of Vancouver Women of Distinction Innovative Workplace Award.

"Coast Capital Savings dedicates this award to our staff who are the heart and soul of our organization," said Ken Hahn, Coast Capital Savings Senior Vice President, Human Resources. "Our goal is to ensure we exceed the needs of our employees, and their families, as well as attract and retain exceptional people by offering innovative workplace programs."

Coast Capital Savings was commended for its compensation program that rewards employees financially for the company's success; providing innovative learning opportunities through its corporate university; encouraging employee feedback through its various programs and initiatives; and establishing programs that support employee well-being.

The award also recognized the credit union for its contributions to the community. Last year, Coast Capital Savings donated $3.8 million and 20,000 employee hours to local charities through a variety of youth initiatives, community economic development, community relations and employee volunteer programs.

"The YWCA initiated the workplace innovator award category in 2005 as it deeply reflects one of our own core values - achieving work-life balance," said Janet Austin, CEO, YWCA of Vancouver. "We congratulate Coast Capital Savings and encourage companies throughout the Lower Mainland to follow their lead."

The 23rd annual 2006 YWCA of Vancouver Women of Distinction Awards is recognized nationally as one of the most prestigious awards for women and workplaces. The awards celebrate those who inspire, and provide a venue to recognize the achievements of outstanding women, businesses, and organizations in the community.

Lawrie Ferguson, Coast Capital Savings Senior Vice President, Marketing, was also nominated for the YWCA Women of Distinction Entrepreneur / Innovator Award for her work on several innovative projects, including positioning Coast Capital Savings to be Canada's first full-service financial institution to offer consumers free chequing. Ferguson's nomination was a testament to her ability to be a role model in her positions as a senior executive, mother and community volunteer.

Coast Capital Savings is Canada's second largest credit union with $8.2 billion in assets, 340,000 members and 47 branches across the Lower Mainland and Vancouver Island. The credit union was the first full-service financial institution to introduce free chequing in Canada.
