Coastal Contacts Goes Robotic to Increase Eyeglasses Production Capacity by 200%

VANCOUVER, BRITISH COLUMBIA--(Marketwire - Sept. 5, 2008) - Coastal Contacts Inc. ("Coastal Contacts") announced today that the Company has installed the first NIDEK Robotic Handling Unit (RHU) machine in Western Canada, increasing its prescription eyeglasses production capacity by 200%. Coastal Contacts, which is known for its innovative approach to selling vision care products such as eyeglasses, sunglasses and contact lenses online, has made its latest investment in technology with this state-of-the-art edging machine, used to produce prescription eyeglasses.

The NIDEK RHU 1500 is a fully automated machine which includes a robotic arm that has the capability to produce 1,000 pairs of eyeglasses per day. The NIDEK is the first machine of its kind to be installed in Western Canada and is acknowledged as the most efficient edging system in the market.
