Coastal Law Launches Third Year at Home Program

Law Students in Their Final Year to Receive Additional Practical Training to Advance Career

JACKSONVILLE, FL--(Marketwired - March 22, 2016) - Florida Coastal School of Law is excited to announce its "Third Year at Home" program. The Coastal Law Third Year at Home program will provide law students the opportunity to become professionally rooted in the legal communities they will ultimately serve by allowing law students to complete their third year of law school anywhere in the country. Students may participate in externships, take distance education courses, and more.

The Third Year at Home program is consistent with Coastal Law's mission to advance students' success in law school, on the bar exam, and in their careers. Graduating practice-ready law students is one of the essential pillars the law school was founded upon 20 years ago.

"We know that one of the challenges faced by law school students is the desire to attend school in one place and take the Bar in another. Many students obtain internships or externships in the area they go to school. By completing your third year at home, students are networking earlier while also getting the practical training that sets our school apart from others," says Scott DeVito, Dean of Florida Coastal School of Law.

Coastal Law makes this program available to law students based upon three key offerings:

  • Distance Education: Offering a broad choice of distance education courses that meet ABA requirements and count towards a law student's degree requirements.
  • Externship Support: Coastal Law will assist participating law students in identifying and locating qualified externship opportunities.
  • State Specific Bar Prep: Coastal Law will help students prepare for the Bar in the State where they want to practice. During their third year of law school, students will take two courses: Learning Science 1 and Learning Science 2 that are specifically designed to help them pass their state's bar.
