Codenvy Teams Up With Samsung to Power SAMSUNG ARTIK™ IDE With Eclipse Che

SAN FRANCISCO, CA--(Marketwired - Apr 27, 2016) - Samsung Developer Conference -- Today, Codenvy announced the beta release of the SAMSUNG ARTIK™ IDE powered by Eclipse Che, a professional toolset that makes it easy to build, deploy and manage applications for the Internet of Things (IoT).

The SAMSUNG ARTIK IDE is the first open source cloud IDE dedicated to IoT application development. It is based on Eclipse Che, the only community-driven open source cloud IDE, workspace server and plug-in platform, with 100,000 downloads after its March release and contributions from SAP, IBM, Microsoft Corp., SmartBear, Red Hat, Samsung and Codenvy.

"SAMSUNG ARTIK has opened its doors to the large community built around Eclipse IDEs, bringing more users to its growing set of developer tools. Anyone is now empowered to bring IoT to life with the SAMSUNG ARTIK IDE," said Tyler Jewell, Eclipse Che project lead and Codenvy CEO. "This new IDE, and the support of Samsung and the Eclipse Foundation, opens a new world for developers building products and services that make IoT's potential a reality."

Features of SAMSUNG ARTIK IDE powered by Eclipse Che include:

  • Device discovery and management. Discover SAMSUNG ARTIK-powered devices to begin managing the entire application lifecycle -- from building to editing to debugging -- all while the application runs on the device.
  • Multiple programming languages. Out-of-the-box support for a wide range of languages, including C, C++, Java, JavaScript, Python and more.
  • Versioning and deployment. Easily transition applications to production with version control and deployment utilities.
  • Open source community and support. In addition to support from Samsung and Codenvy, SAMSUNG ARTIK developers can tap into the Eclipse Che community for best practices, ideas and troubleshooting.
  • Develop anywhere. A no-installation browser IDE that allows development from anywhere, whether from a desktop, in the cloud or embedded directly within the device.

"As the Samsung ARTIK platform is being adopted by developers with varying levels of skillsets and requirements, it is imperative to offer a range of tools that maps to the wide range of IoT devices and projects. There is a strong need to offer a professional-grade, highly integrated and familiar development platform," said Curtis Sasaki, vice president of Ecosystems, Samsung Electronics. "By pairing the SAMSUNG ARTIK platform with Eclipse Che, we are providing developers with a comprehensive, professional-grade solution for building applications for IoT."

The SAMSUNG ARTIK is an open platform designed to enable faster and simpler development of new enterprise, industrial and consumer applications for the Internet of Things. The platform is designed to deliver a superior end-to-end solution with integrated modules featuring best-in-class security, cloud connectivity, local intelligence and a wealth of partner applications through its rich developer ecosystem. The SAMSUNG ARTIK is designed to accelerate development of a new generation of better, smarter IoT devices, solutions and services.
