Cogeco Data Services Expands Barrie Data Centre

Major capacity increase at Flagship data centre scheduled for completion in early 2015

TORONTO, ONTARIO--(Marketwired - Nov. 20, 2014) - Today, Cogeco Data Services a Canadian provider of fully managed hybrid ICT solutions, announced the expansion of its flagship data centre in Barrie, Ontario. The facility, paired with Cogeco Data Services' wholly-owned cloud and network infrastructure, is expanding to accommodate Cogeco Data Services' growing customer base and demand for the Company's cloud and managed services. Construction of over 20,000 square feet of new operational space is now underway and scheduled for completion in early 2015.

When the expansion is complete, the Company will have invested approximately $80 million in the facility that will house over 32,000 square feet of operational floor space.

Built to exceed Tier 3 standards and be CSAE 3416 and PCI compliant, the Barrie facility delivers advanced data centre, cloud, managed IT and connectivity services. It features redundant power, including backup generators and Uninterruptible Power Supply (UPS) systems that provide conditioned power to critical loads and redundant system capacity to ensure continuous power availability.

The expanded centre, which as of last year is the fifth in Cogeco Data Services' growing data centre fleet, also provides access to advanced hybrid solutions (colocation, cloud and managed data centre services), including business continuity and disaster recovery capabilities.

"We are thrilled to be announcing the expansion of our Barrie data centre. This addition to the facility will allow us to serve the growing requirements of current and newly acquired customers," said Tony Ciciretto, President and CEO, Cogeco Data Services and Peer 1 Hosting. "With its close proximity to Toronto, Barrie is an ideal location for a primary data centre facility and is also far enough removed from Toronto's downtown core to act as a disaster recovery site. As the demand for data services continues to grow, we are well-positioned to provide a world-class ICT offering for our clients' mission-critical and value-add requirements."

Cogeco Data Services' consultative approach to delivering customized ICT solutions paired with the data centre's ideal location has appealed to a number of international firms - particularly in Europe and Asia - who have put their trust in the highly secure facility for their North American data centre requirements.

Owned, operated and managed by Cogeco Data Services, the data centre was designed in partnership with Ehvert Mission Critical, a firm responsible for the design and construction of some of North America's most sophisticated mission-critical data centre facilities. The latest in green data centre technologies were employed in partnership with global energy management specialist, Schneider Electric, most notably the first production installation of Schneider Electric's APC Ecobreeze Cooling system in North America.
