Colibria Launches the Intelligent Network Address Book

Empowers Carriers to Offer a Network Address Book as a True Hub for Communication Services and Social Interaction

BARCELONA, SPAIN--(Marketwire - February 16, 2011) - GSMA Mobile World Congress - Colibria, a leading global provider of telecom application servers, today announced the availability of the Intelligent Network Address Book designed to extend the rich communications experience. An expansion of the Colibria Application Suite, the Intelligent Network Address Book represents the evolution of the standard network address book where contacts are linked together, rather than just stored, creating a social network across various communications services and devices all centered around the users address book.

With end users and enterprise customers used to a variety of services provided by both their communication providers and over the top players, there is an increasing demand to provide an attractive interoperable address book to handle both traditional outreach and the ability to connect with the latest social network. Over-the-top players are increasingly offering attractive services, creating a real window of opportunity for telecommunication providers to use their trusted relationship with customers to become the centralized contact hub from where their subscribers can track their contacts and are empowered to communicate.

In this battle for enriched communications between operators and over-the-top players, Colibria believes its intelligent address book will provide a compelling, open and equivalent contact management tool that provides operators and carriers -- mobile, fixed, broadband or cable -- the tools to monetize on their trusted relationship and grasp the multi-access and multi-device opportunities their users are creating.

Since end-users use a variety of services to keep in touch through mobile phones, PCs, tablets and other devices, a user must manage multiple address books, one for each service. This creates the need for a common network-based address book that is independent of the service or device used. To meet this need, Colibria takes the core functions and features outlined by the Rich Communication Suite (RCS) initiative a step further to include the new Converged Address Book (CAB) standard established by the Open Mobile Alliance. The Intelligent Network Address Book enhances functionality and the user experience by supporting interoperability between service providers and enabling the use of a single network-based address book environment across IP networks and devices.

"Colibria's long-term success will be driven by its ability to interpret constantly evolving industry requirements into comprehensive business solutions," said Lars Myhrum, Colibria's CEO. "Motivated by the initial success of our application and presence servers, we will enable service providers to fully leverage the promise of today's technology to make the address book the repository for all communications and allow consumers to seamlessly integrate data, notifications and social networking identities across the value chain."

An Intelligent Extension of the Colibria Application Suite
The Intelligent Network Address Book is built upon Colibria's experience in delivering IM and presence. As part of the Colibria Application Suite, the Intelligent Network Address Book gives service providers the ability to deploy SIP-based services centered around the address book as part of a rich communications offering for its subscribers. The Intelligent Network Address Book can also be seamlessly integrated into a service provider's ecosystem.

The Intelligent Network Address Book provides enhanced mechanisms for users to interact. For example, the auto-update feature ensures contact information is automatically delivered to users without requiring any manual intervention. Users can search for a contact to add to their address book based on various search criteria. In addition, each contact in the Intelligent Network Address Book is actually a link to the contact, where permission is required to view the contact's information and add the contact to the address book. This creates a linked network of contacts, similar to a social network -- where users are connected by linking their address books together. This linked network can then become the central point for all contact interaction and various initiatives such as targeted advertising and additional social relationships discovery, similar to Facebook or LinkedIn.

The Intelligent Network Address Book allows service providers to create new services by offering a network-centric, rich address book service where they provide multiple communications services around a user's contacts and connections. Enhanced services like the ability to backup a mobile phone address book or ensure an always up-to-date address book will help reduce subscriber churn and generate new revenue streams.
