College Students Making Tomorrow a Little Better With College Pro Painters

WOBURN, MA--(Marketwire - May 3, 2011) - At last spring has arrived: what a glorious feeling! As winter reluctantly melts away (literally), homes once hidden beneath an overcoat of white now stand like rosebuds about to bloom.

A quick trip around the home's exterior reveals a few projects on the menu: a little tree pruning, some planting here and there. Perhaps a fresh coat of paint on your home's exterior to make the place look jaunty.

For many less fortunate members of our community, because of the sluggish economy or life's circumstances, the cost of painting a home's exterior has more in common with a trip to the moon rather than a trip to the local hardware store.

"A fresh coat of paint on the outside of our home for many of us is just a matter of planning ahead and saving some money," said Tony Valle, CEO of College Pro Painters, a student entrepreneurial company that paints homes and washes windows during the summer months. "But, for some in our community, coming up with the funds, especially in these difficult economic times, is impossible. Fortunately, we have an answer for that."

College Pro and College Pro entrepreneurs have a history of coming together to donate their time and do something good for their community by painting the home exteriors of those less fortunate, through a variety of corporate and local initiatives.

What many call a charity event, these students call a passion. Since 2004, student entrepreneurs, managers, and crews, representing College Pro in the community, have donated over $850,000 worth of their time to help improve housing in underprivileged areas using a few nails, brushes, and some paint.

Of course, helping the less privileged is at the heart of College Pro's core values. The company is a proud supporter of the Make It Right Foundation, an organization that is helping to revitalize New Orleans Lower 9th Ward by building safe and healthy homes. It has also helped Kids Help Phone, Canada's only national phone and web counseling service for children and youth.

In addition to the numerous corporate good will initiatives, College Pro supports and encourages franchisees and franchise managers to do the same. Many have opted to participate in programs like "Alternative Spring Break" and "College Pro Home Makeover Patrol."

College Pro has run their Alternative Spring Break programs in Oklahoma City, Denver, Spokane, New Orleans and Tampa. Instead of lounging on the beach, college students spend their spring breaks donating time to helping less fortunate members of these communities.

The "College Pro Home Makeover Patrol" program is being utilized this year by Sam Yudes, a fifth-year College Pro franchise owner in Carmel, Indiana. To Sam, the blending of the College Pro entrepreneurial spirit with its desire to give back to the community is what makes the company great. To that end, he and his crew of painters will participate in the company's "College Pro Home Makeover Patrol" this year and help a needy family by painting the outside of their home for free.

Nick Jackson is another College Pro franchise owner, who, like Sam, got his entrepreneurial start as a student painter. Nick and his crew will also participate in the "College Home Makeover Patrol." They will use this time to paint the outside of some lucky family's home, with the estimated donated cost between labor and materials around $5,600. In the case of both Sam and Nick and their respective crews, these scenarios allow them to give back to their communities, to help make them more beautiful, stronger, and safer.

"One of our core values is to respect the individual. Respecting others and working together is never more relevant than when it contributes to the good communities we live in," continued CEO Tony Valle. "Our franchisees learn how to be great contributing citizens while delivering a needed service to someone who is having a tough time. But it's more than that. The sincere gratitude and seeing the smile on a homeowner's face when they look at their newly painted home are well worth the effort."
