DENVER, CO--(Marketwired - June 23, 2016) - Denver-based SlimGenics Weight Control Centers, the leader in providing consumers with nutritional and education based weight-loss programs, was named No. 19 on ColoradoBiz magazine's Top 100 Woman-Owned Companies list. Katherine Ott, SlimGenics' Founder and CEO was presented with ColoradoBiz's 2016 Visionary Award at their cocktail reception unveiling this year's notable list. ColoradoBiz compiles the exclusive Top 100 list annually and this is the fourth year SlimGenics has been recognized. The award identifies outstanding woman-owned companies that demonstrate excellence and success in the industry and communities they serve.

Upon receiving Colorado Biz's Visionary female business leader award, Ott responded by saying: "I am humbled and moved to receive this award. It is an honor to be recognized amongst so many successful and inspiring business women."

Ott launched SlimGenics in Colorado in March 2003 to address the nation's growing obesity epidemic and fulfill the need for a weight-loss solution that not only helps people lose weight but, more importantly, provides a simple and straightforward plan to create a healthier lifestyle. Today, SlimGenics operates 34 locations across Colorado, Minnesota and Ohio with more than 175 employees. Ott's strategic operational and marketing methodologies have created solid brand awareness and customer loyalty to SlimGenics resulting in strong overall revenue growth for the company for more than a decade.

"Since the inception of SlimGenics our mission has been to assist people in achieving a better life through better health. Today, we are proud of the tens of thousands of lives we have helped to transform," said Katherine Ott. "We look to the future with confidence and optimism as we work to create new ways to reach those in need of nutritional education and support in reaching their health and wellness goals."

Obesity Epidemic

According to a recent report released by the Centers for Disease Control, studies indicate that the obesity epidemic, which is now over three decades old, will likely worsen. Forty percent of American women are now considered overweight with a BMI greater than 25. It is estimated that 38 percent of adults living in the United States have a BMI greater than 30, placing them in the obese category. More concerning is the increase in youth obesity with 17 percent of teenagers now falling into the obese category with nearly 6% considered morbidly obese.

The trend is expected to continue with the Trust for American Health projecting that 44 percent of Americans will be obese by 2030 putting increased burden on our health care system and contributing to the increase in weight related diseases like diabetes, cancer and heart disease.
