PHILADELPHIA, PA--(Marketwire - May 5, 2011) - Gospel music is rising to another level on the Delaware River Waterfront at the Sounds of Gospel concert on Saturday, August 27thfrom 3:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. The majestic sound of gospel music will resonate with power and strength from the RiverStage at Penn's Landing on the Great Plaza. Co-Sponsored by WDAS FM, CBS 3 and The CW PHILLY 57, this spectacular will encompass various styles of gospel music, including hymns, songs of praise and contemporary gospel.
This year, The Sounds of Gospel concert will feature internationally acclaimed contemporary gospel artist, Israel Houghton. As a singer, composer, multi-instrumentalist, producer and worship leader, he has garnered 4 Grammy® Awards, 6 Dove Awards, 2 Stellar Awards and a Soul Train Award as the leader of the musical ensemble and ministry organization "Israel and New Breed."
Houghton fulfilled a lifelong dream when he recorded his new masterwork, "Love God. Love People" at the historic Abbey Road Studios in London. With a little help from friends like Fred Hammond, Kirk Franklin and Take 6's Claude V. McKnight, Mark Kibble and Joe Kibble and his brilliant team of co-producers Aaron Lindsey and Tommy Simms, Houghton has created a new ode to love in this epic, 12 song cycle.
With an intrinsic sense of music chemistry, Houghton has created a catalog of songs which has become a staple in houses of faith, on radio dials and in CD players around the world. Israel Houghton's multicultural upbringing has been pivotal in his boundary-defying music, inspiring people regardless of their age, race, or culture to come together as a united body. Houghton also serves as the worship leader at the Lakewood Church in Houston, TX under the leadership of Pastor Joel Osteen.
"Am I my brother's keeper?" Israel's response is sure to be a resounding "yes!" Israel supports social justice efforts by serving as the spokesman for the international relief / aid organization World Vision and by supporting medical and mercy missions.
The Sounds of Gospel concert will also include spirit-filled performances on the RiverStage at Penn's Landing by The Bryant Pugh Band and Henry Hall and New Dimension.
