Commanding Officer of the Lincoln and Welland Regiment Announces the Presentation of New Colours and Royal Visit

ST. CATHARINES, ONTARIO--(Marketwire - Sept. 7, 2012) - Lieutenant-Colonel Allan W. Stoyka, the Commanding Officer of the Lincoln and Welland Regiment, is pleased to announce Her Royal Highness The Countess of Wessex, Colonel-in-Chief of The Lincoln & Welland Regiment, will present new Colours to the Regiment at a public parade.

The formal portion parade will commence at 11:00 a.m. on the morning of Saturday, September 15 at Queenston Heights in Niagara on the Lake. Starting at 9:45 a.m., local re-enactors will conduct a music, musket and drill demonstration.

The Lincoln and Welland Regiment, an infantry unit of the Army Reserve, will also have their new Battle Honour "Niagara" emblazoned on its Regimental Colour to signify its perpetuation of local Militia units which saw service throughout the War of 1812. Regimental Colours are the visible memorials to the great deeds of a regiment, and symbols of its spirit as expressed in those deeds.

Elements of two other regiments of the Army Reserve will also be present at the parade, those being 56 Field Regiment, Royal Canadian Artillery, and The Queen's Own Rifles of Canada. The Countess will inspect the serving soldiers on the parade as well as members of the regimental Association and the two affiliated Royal Canadian Army Cadet Corps (68 and 613). A ceremony to consecrate the new Colours will then be conducted by the Chaplain General of Canada, Brigadier General Karl R. McLean.

Members of the public are welcome to attend this parade at Queenston Heights. We recommend bringing some lawn chairs and arriving by no later than 09:30 a.m. in order to ensure a parking spot.
