Commissioner of Competition Kicks off the Innovation and Antitrust Workshop


OTTAWA, ONTARIO--(Marketwired - Nov. 4, 2014) - The Competition Bureau is hosting a one-day workshop on innovation and antitrust today. Held at the Ottawa Convention Centre, the event was kicked off by the Commissioner of Competition, John Pecman, who delivered the opening remarks. The Commissioner highlighted the importance of innovation for businesses, the government and competition agencies.

During the course of the day, various speakers from business, academia and government, both domestic and international, will discuss the role of innovation across various industries, explore the relationship between competition and innovation, and examine how innovation should best be assessed by competition agencies.

More specifically, the workshop features three panel discussions on the factors that drive Canadian businesses to innovate, the relationship between competition and innovation, and the current treatment of innovation in competition law analysis in Canada and other key jurisdictions.
