Commitment to Green Construction Practices in San Diego Area Tops Swinerton Builders' List of Initiatives for 2007

SAN DIEGO, CA -- (MARKET WIRE) -- February 21, 2007 -- Swinerton Builders, a leading general contractor throughout the Western U.S., and a leader in environmentally sustainable building practices, has announced a renewed company-wide initiative toward 'green' construction practices throughout their operations.

A major San Diego site tops the list of green building in progress under the Swinerton banner. Located in Kearny Mesa, the Sunroad Enterprises' Centrum 12 building is the first Pre-Certified LEED Core and Shell project in the San Diego region. The Class "A" 12-story office tower is within easy walking distance of homes, restaurants, banks and other neighborhood services. During construction, 50% of all construction-generated waste is being recycled. The site features low-water consumption landscaping and light-colored hardscaping to reduce daytime temperatures, while the interior provides natural daylight, non-toxic adhesives, paints and coatings. Water-conserving fixtures are all specified in the design, resulting in savings of over 38%, compared to standard fixtures. Through this project, Sunroad Enterprises is participating in the EPA's Green Power Partnership (http://www.epa.gov/greenpower/).

Swinerton has rapidly become one of the top contractors providing state-of-the-art strategies for sustainable site development, water savings, energy efficiency, materials selection, indoor air quality and recycling initiatives. Green Building is an integrated and interdisciplinary approach to the design and construction of facilities involving LEED*-Accredited Professionals and best practices.

A History of Green

One of Swinerton Builders' most exciting Green projects is the new Orchard Garden Hotel in San Francisco, a 10-story, 86-room hotel that combines luxury with Green Building. It's on the path to becoming the first new LEED-Certified hotel in California.

The company applied its green advocacy to their Corporate and Regional Headquarters at 260 Townsend Street in San Francisco, in a LEED-EB (Existing Building) pilot program with the United States Green Building Council (USGBC).
