Ciena is a networking equipment maker with a large presence in China. Last month the company reported a wider fiscal first-quarter loss, dragged down by costs related to its year-ago purchase of a part of Nortel Networks. For the quarter, Ciena lost $79.1 million, or 84 cents per share, in the period ended Jan. 31. That compares with a year-earlier loss of $53.3 million, or 58 cents per share. Ciena's projected fiscal second-quarter sales of $415 million to $435 million missed analyst estimates.
