Community Infrastructure Improvement Fund: Government of Canada funds four projects to modernize recreational facilities in Iles-de-la-Madeleine


GASPÉ, QUEBEC--(Marketwired - April 24, 2013) - The Honourable Denis Lebel, Minister of Transport, Infrastructure and Communities, Minister of the Economic Development Agency of Canada for the Regions of Quebec and Minister of Intergovernmental Affairs, today announced that four Îles-de-la-Madeleine organizations have been granted financial assistance for infrastructure improvements.

"By funding these renovation and modernization projects, the Government of Canada is fulfilling its commitment to help improve the quality of life in our communities," said Minister Lebel.

The four organizations receiving this financial assistance from the Government of Canada are Centre nautique de l'Istorlet, Centre Alfred-Gallant, Centre des loisirs de Fatima I.-M. Inc. and Club nautique Les Plaisanciers du Havre.

"Our government remains focused on four priorities, as outlined by the Prime Minister, that Canadians care most about: their families, the safety of our streets and communities, their pride in being a citizen of this country, and of course, their personal financial security," Minister Lebel concluded.

This assistance, granted in the form of four non-repayable contributions totalling $529,311, has been awarded through the Community Infrastructure Improvement Fund (CIIF).

The CIIF has a nationwide budget of $150 million over two years, including $31.2 million to be invested in Quebec where the Agency is responsible for its administration. The Fund aims to support the rehabilitation and improvement, including expansion, of existing community infrastructure. The second call for proposals is currently open; interested organizations have until April 30, 2013, to submit their proposals.

Centre Alfred-Gallant Inc. Non-repayable contribution of $121,338 / total investment of $305,000

The project involves renovating three buildings, installing an ice ring and rest areas, hooking the site up to the municipal sewer system and acquiring multimedia equipment for the hosting of recreational and sporting events.
Centre nautique de l'Istorlet Inc. Non-repayable contribution of $13,725 / total investment of $27,450

The project consists of renovating the showers, replacing the siding on the bathrooms, and changing the windows and front doors on the buildings accessible to users.
Centre des loisirs de Fatima I.-M. Inc. Non-repayable contribution of $240,500 / total investment of $481,000

The project involves building a pergola and carrying out improvements to the sports field, parking lot and sewer system.
Club nautique Les Plaisanciers du Havre Non-repayable contribution of $153,748 / $ total investment of $307,497

The project consists of, among other things, repairing the stationary piers, building and installing new docks, enlarging the harbour master's office and repairing its roof, building storage areas, and upgrading the plumbing and electrical systems.
