Community Infrastructure Improvement Fund: Government of Canada Funds Four Recreational Infrastructure Modernization Projects in Bas-Saint-Laurent


RIMOUSKI, QUEBEC--(Marketwired - May 30, 2013) - The Honourable Denis Lebel, Minister of Transport, Infrastructure and Communities, Minister of the Economic Development Agency of Canada for the Regions of Quebec and Minister of Intergovernmental Affairs, announces that four Bas-Saint-Laurent organizations have been granted financial assistance for recreational infrastructure improvement projects.

"By funding these four projects, the Government of Canada is fulfilling its commitment to help improve the quality of life in our communities," said Minister Lebel.

The organizations receiving this financial assistance from the Government of Canada are the Corporation des loisirs Sainte-Odile de Rimouski, the Comité de développement local de la Rivière-Blanche Inc., Station Plein Air de Saint-Pacôme and Les Loisirs de Sainte-Angèle-de-Mérici Inc.

"Our government remains focused on four priorities, as outlined by the Prime Minister, that Canadians care most about: their families, the safety of our streets and communities, their pride in being a citizen of this country, and of course, their personal financial security," Minister Lebel concluded.

This assistance, granted in the form of four non-repayable contributions totalling $383,326, has been awarded through the Community Infrastructure Improvement Fund (CIIF).

The CIIF has a nationwide budget of $150 million over two years, including $31.2 million to be invested in Quebec where the Agency is responsible for its administration. The Fund aims to support the rehabilitation and improvement, including expansion, of existing community infrastructure.

Financial assistance granted under the Community Infrastructure Improvement Fund

Corporation des loisirs Sainte-Odile de Rimouski Non-repayable contribution of $314,000 / total investment of $629,920
The project involves expanding the Sainte-Odile community centre to build a multi-purpose hall with a 260-person capacity. It also includes the renovation of various rooms used by groups that frequent the centre.
Comité de développement local de la Rivière-Blanche Inc. Non-repayable contribution of $18,451 / total investment of $39,252
The project consists of carrying out improvements to the softball field in the Municipality of Saint-Ulric and making it safer and more user-friendly.
Station Plein Air de Saint-Pacôme Non-repayable contribution of $11,825 / total investment of $27,886
The aim of this project is to renovate the main building of the Station Plein Air and replace the roof covering.
Les Loisirs de Sainte-Angèle-de-Mérici Inc. Non-repayable contribution of $39,050 / total investment of $79,900
The project involves renovating the municipality's outdoor skating rink and extending its period of use to facilitate the practice of multiple sports activities.
