Community Infrastructure Improvement Fund: Government of Canada Funds Modernization of Two Acton RCM Community Centres

ACTON VALE, QUEBEC--(Marketwired - May 16, 2013) - Jacques Gourde, Member of Parliament for Lotbinière-Chutes-de-la-Chaudière, today announced, on behalf of the Honourable Denis Lebel, Minister of Transport, Infrastructure and Communities, Minister of the Economic Development Agency of Canada for the Regions of Quebec and Minister of Intergovernmental Affairs, that the Acton Vale Community Centre and Roxton Falls Recreation have been granted financial assistance to renovate their community and recreational facilities.

"By funding these two renovation and modernization projects, the Government of Canada is fulfilling its commitment to help improve the quality of life in our communities," said Jacques Gourde.

"Our Government remains focused on four priorities, as outlined by the Prime Minister, that Canadians care most about: their families, the safety of our streets and communities, their pride in being a citizen of this country, and of course, their personal financial security," added MP Gourde.

This assistance, granted in the form of two non-repayable contributions totalling $230,597, has been awarded through the Community Infrastructure Improvement Fund (CIIF).

The Acton Vale Community Centre received $219,597 to renovate the existing building. Work is to be carried out on the three roof levels, an elevator will be added, the second floor reconfigured and the multipurpose room enlarged. Roxton Falls Recreation received $11,000 to rehabilitate its recreation hall. Among other things, the project involved renovating the recreational premises, the skaters' room and the public washrooms. The work also included replacing the flooring, exterior paving and signage.

The CIIF has a nationwide budget of $150 million over two years, including $31.2 million to be invested in Quebec where the Agency is responsible for its administration. The Fund aims to support the rehabilitation and improvement, including expansion, of existing community infrastructure.
