Community Infrastructure Improvement Fund-Government of Canada Funds Three Recreational Infrastructure modernization Projects in Chaudiere-Appalaches


QUEBEC CITY, QUEBEC--(Marketwired - May 28, 2013) - Acting on behalf of the Honourable Denis Lebel, Minister of Transport, Infrastructure and Communities, Minister of the Economic Development Agency of Canada for the Regions of Quebec and Minister of Intergovernmental Affairs, the Honourable Christian Paradis, Minister of Industry and Minister of State (Agriculture), today announced that one organization and two municipalities in the Chaudière-Appalaches region have been granted financial assistance for recreational infrastructure improvements.

"By funding these three projects, the Government of Canada is fulfilling its commitment to help improve the quality of life in our communities," said Minister Paradis.

The organization and municipalities receiving this financial assistance from the Government of Canada are L'Œuvre des terrains de jeux de Saint-Flavien, the Parish Municipality of Saint-Jacques-le-Majeur-de-Wolfestown, and the Municipality of Saint-Pierre-de-Broughton.

"Our government remains focused on four priorities, as outlined by the Prime Minister, that Canadians care most about: their families, the safety of our streets and communities, their pride in being a citizen of this country, and of course, their personal financial security," Minister Paradis concluded.

This assistance, granted in the form of three non-repayable contributions totalling $28,566, has been awarded through the Community Infrastructure Improvement Fund (CIIF).

The CIIF has a nationwide budget of $150 million over two years, including $31.2 million to be invested in Quebec where the Agency is responsible for its administration. The Fund aims to support the rehabilitation and improvement, including expansion, of existing community infrastructure.

Financial assistance granted under the Community Infrastructure Improvement Fund

Promoter Description - Investment - Contribution
Municipality of Saint-Pierre-de-Broughton Non-repayable contribution of $6,270 /
total investment of $13,110

The project involves refurbishing the community centre in the Municipality of Saint-Pierre-de-Broughton. This work will include replacing the floor tiles and repairing the portico of the building's main entrance.
Parish Municipality of Saint-Jacques-le-Majeur-de-Wolfestown Non-repayable contribution of $8,296 /
total investment of $17,346

This project to renovate the community centre in the Parish Municipality of Saint-Jacques-le-Majeur-de-Wolfestown will include installing a water treatment system and replacing the furnace, two windows and floor covering in the building.
L'Œuvre des terrains de jeux de Saint-Flavien Non-repayable contribution of $14,000 /
total investment of $31,000

The project consists of, among other things, laying a new soccer field near the existing soccer fields in the Municipality of Saint-Flavien, installing a fence and purchasing bleachers and sports equipment.
