Community Infrastructure Improvement Fund: Government of Canada Lends Financial Support to L'Oeuvre des loisirs de Saint-Bernard

SAINT-BERNARD, QUEBEC--(Marketwired - Dec. 16, 2013) - Acting on behalf of the Honourable Denis Lebel, Minister of Infrastructure, Communities and Intergovernmental Affairs and Minister of the Economic Development Agency of Canada for the Regions of Quebec, the Honourable Maxime Bernier, Member of Parliament for Beauce and Minister of State (Small Business and Tourism, and Agriculture), today announced that L'Œuvre des loisirs de Saint-Bernard (Dorchester) was granted funding to improve the municipality's bowling pitch.

"By supporting this project of L'Œuvre des loisirs de Saint-Bernard, our Government is fulfilling its commitment to help improve the quality of life in our communities," said Minister Bernier.

The organization used the funding from the Government of Canada to put a roof over the existing pitch, which has been raised onto a permanent structure in order to give the population access to a safe facility suitable for the practice of pétanque and various other recreational and sports activities, including indoor soccer. This project helps ensure residents are able to enjoy year-round access to a multi-purpose site.

This assistance, granted in the form of a $127,520 non-repayable financial contribution, has been awarded through the Community Infrastructure Improvement Fund (CIIF).

The CIIF has a nationwide budget of $150 million over two years, including $31.2 million to be invested in Quebec, where the Agency is responsible for its administration. The Fund aims to support the rehabilitation and improvement, including expansion, of existing community infrastructure.
