LAC-ETCHEMIN, QUEBEC--(Marketwired - July 19, 2013) - Acting on behalf of the Honourable Denis Lebel, Minister of Infrastructure, Communities and Intergovernmental Affairs and Minister of the Economic Development Agency of Canada for the Regions of Quebec, the Honourable Steven Blaney, Minister of Public Safety and Emergency Preparedness, today attended the inauguration ceremony of the newly refurbished Éco-Parc des Etchemins.
"Natural spaces have an important recreational function. They encourage tourism activities conducive to economic development. That is why the Government of Canada was unreserved in its decision to invest in the preservation and upgrading of Éco-Parc des Etchemins," said Minister Blaney.
Residents and visitors can now enjoy modern, safe facilities as well as a new water playground. Moreover, the extended opening hours at the main pavilion and the expanded services available on the site are sure to increase the park's drawing power and attendance rates.
In April 2013, the Government of Canada granted $80,504 in non-repayable funding for the various upgrades. This contribution was awarded through the Community Infrastructure Improvement Fund (CIIF).
The CIIF has a nationwide budget of $150 million over two years, including $31.2 million to be invested in Quebec where the Agency is responsible for its administration. The Fund aims to support the rehabilitation and improvement, including expansion, of existing community infrastructure.
