Compassion Canada is excited to announce our participation in Volunteer Canada's National Volunteer Week celebrations from April 6-12, 2014.

"With more than 1,800 volunteers donating their time through Compassion Canada's Volunteer Advocate Network, we felt this initiative was a perfect fit for us to say thank you," says Tracy Smith, Volunteer Advocate Network Manager.

There are many ways someone can volunteer their time with Compassion Canada, from volunteering at events to writing letters to children. Volunteers receive individually tailored training-allowing them to support Compassion in the ways they are most passionate and gifted.

To celebrate, the Volunteer Advocate Network will be sending our volunteers hand-coloured thank you notes from children in our sponsorship program in El Salvador, Colombia, Peru and the Dominican Republic.

"Connecting our volunteers to the children is really important for me," says Smith. "I want each volunteer to know that the time they are donating here in Canada really does have an impact on children in the countries where we minister. These thank you notes are a symbol of that."

In addition to notes from children, the staff and children from a child development centre in El Salvador put together a very touching thank you tribute.

Country singer George Canyon is even getting in on thanking our volunteers by generously providing a free download of his brand new song, "Crazy Love."

"For over 25 years, Compassion has been truly blessed by the role our volunteers have played in partnering with us to serve Christ, His Church and the children around the globe. We are honoured to have each one of them use their gifts for His glory and His kingdom purposes. From our leadership team, the Board of Directors, our staff and the children we serve-thank you, Compassion volunteers!" says Barry Slauenwhite, President and CEO of Compassion Canada.
