Compassion Canada Supports Universal Children's Day

LONDON, ONTARIO--(Marketwire - Nov. 3, 2011) - November 20, 2011, is Universal Children's Day, a day dedicated to promoting the welfare of children around the world.

At Compassion Canada, we know that the needs of the world's children are great. Every day, more than 1200 children become infected with HIV—the vast majority of them newborns infected through mother-to-child transmission. Pneumonia kills more children than any other infectious disease. 450 people, mostly children, die every day from measles, despite a safe and effective vaccination being available for less than one dollar.

While the need is great and the situation is desperate, there is hope for the world's poorest children. It's the hope that Compassion's ministry offers to children while helping them develop healthy minds, bodies and relationships—the love of God in Jesus Christ. By caring for the whole person and equipping them with the skills they need for success alongside a lasting faith in Jesus Christ, Compassion is seeing children escape from the grip of poverty and helping their communities to do the same.

During the month of November, Compassion Canada Representatives, including President and CEO Dr. Barry Slauenwhite, are available for interviews or to speak at your church, youth group or Christian school. To schedule a speaker, please email Kristine Jongepier at or call 1-800-563-5437 today. To learn more about Compassion's ministry to children, please visit
