Compassion International Announces Release of Its New iPhone App

COLORADO SPRINGS, CO--(Marketwire - September 10, 2010) - Compassion International, the world's largest Christian child development and sponsorship organization, announced the release of its new iPhone App, making it even easier to join the fight against poverty.

Compassion's iPhone App offers access to the most up-to-date and exclusive stories on child poverty. Inspiring YouTube videos, many of which come straight from the countries in which Compassion serves, will also be available.

Through the application, users will have the opportunity to sponsor a child in one of the 26 countries that Compassion currently serves. They will also be able to give one-time donations to the Disaster Relief Fund helping to bring immediate, lifesaving help to children in need, and the donation will be charged to the user's phone bill.

"New technologies such as this give us wonderful opportunities to connect -- in a moment's notice -- the poorest of children in the remotest parts of the world with caring individuals here in the U.S.," said Mark Hanlon, senior vice president of Compassion International, USA. "What a simple yet impactful way to change the world while using one of the world's fastest growing communication channels: the mobile web."

As part of the new app release, Compassion has also created a new mobile site.

Compassion International is the world's largest Christian child development organization that permanently releases children from poverty. Founded in 1952, Compassion successfully tackles global poverty one child at a time, serving more than 1 million children in 26 of the world's poorest countries. Recognizing that poverty is more than a lack of money, Compassion works holistically through local churches to address the individual physical, economic, educational and spiritual needs of children - enabling them to thrive, not just survive. Charity Navigator, America's largest charity evaluator, has awarded Compassion its highest rating -- four stars -- for nine consecutive years, placing Compassion in the top one percent of all charities.
