Compete Releases Ranking of Top 50 Web Sites for July 2010

Consumers Search Online for Bargains, Recipes and Medical Information

BOSTON, MA--(Marketwire - September 9, 2010) -  Compete, a Kantar Media company, today released its ranking of the top 50 web sites for July 2010. Notable movements for the month included traffic increases to bargain shopping sites, health information sites and vegan/vegetarian cooking sites.

The Search for Wise Buys
Coupon sites saw heavy traffic in July, lead by, which surged to 6,491,554 UVs for July, up 33.12 percent for the month and a staggering 2624.11 percent from July 2009.
Two other coupon sites experienced both month-over-month and year-over-year growth: (+18.05 percent, +244.45 percent) and (+37.43 percent, +1014.97 percent).Bargain hunters fueled the growth of shopping comparison sites in July. experienced an 11.57 percent uptick, raising the site's monthly UVs to 8,905,014 and rose 280.32 percent for the month and leapt to 10,221,661 UVs (+10.67 percent) while price comparison veteran sites felt more modest July traffic increases at 4.32 percent and 3.86 percent, respectively.

Hungry Foodies Craved Recipes
Leisurely summer days (and nights) spurred consumers to search online for recipes to spice up their barbecues, picnics and summer entertaining. Top moving sites in July, regardless of category, included (10,468,041 UVs), (6,980,871 UVs) and (8,891,550 UVs), demonstrating respective traffic increases of 16.65 percent, 13.16 percent and 12.38 percent for the month. Additional recipe sites experiencing growth for the month of July were (+21.64 percent), (+18.46 percent), (+26.95 percent) and (+1442.45 percent).

Consumers ventured to beverage/cocktail recipe sites to find the perfect drink to beat the heat in July, and traffic increases in July reflect consumers' thirst for refreshment recipes. For instance, rose 16.50 percent, was up 85.20 percent and enjoyed a July traffic increase of 23.06 percent. traffic jumped 92.59 percent for the month, a jaw-dropping 10,717.11 percent increase from April 2010. demonstrates that some brand promotional sites do indeed pull in significant traffic, suggesting that this type of site may be a viable marketing strategy.

Boning Up On Health
Medical reference sites proved popular in July. traffic rose 15.14 percent for the month to 6,110,767 UVs and, a government health website for the National Institutes of Health, experienced a healthy increase of 13.85 percent over June, totaling 8,944,226 UVs in July. Numerous diagnostic and informational support sites showed month-over-month traffic increases, including (+13.83 percent), (+23.38 percent), (+13.87 percent) and (+17.41 percent).

Pregnancy-related sites stand out as one site classification that demonstrated surprising growth in July with rising 15.84 percent for the month and increasing 31.47 percent. In addition, traffic increased 11.05 percent, rose 25.55 percent and experienced a 19.29 percent lift in July.
