Competition Bureau Publishes New Bulletin on Communication during Inquiries

OTTAWA, ONTARIO--(Marketwired - June 26, 2014) - Competition Bureau

In an effort to increase transparency and promote compliance with the Competition Act, the Competition Bureau today published its Information Bulletin on Communication during Inquiries, which summarizes how and when the Bureau generally communicates during an inquiry with parties under investigation, industry participants, complainants, and the general public.

As part of the Bureau's commitment to applying Canada's competition laws in a transparent and predictable manner, the Bureau will generally follow the process described in this Information Bulletin.

The Bureau held public consultations on a draft version of the Information Bulletin from October to December 2013, and has taken into account comments received in preparing the final version of the Information Bulletin.

Quick Facts

- This Information Bulletin supports the Bureau's Action Plan on Transparency, which promotes the development of a more efficient and responsive agency, while providing Canadians with more opportunities to learn about the Bureau's work.

- The Bureau has committed to reach out to stakeholders in a year from now to get feedback on how the process in the Information Bulletin is working and to make adjustments, if necessary.

Quote

"As I mentioned during my remarks at the 2014 Payments Panorama earlier today, I am pleased that we have now published the final version of this Information Bulletin. This bulletin is intended to be a resource for parties in their dealings with the Bureau, and it also supports the Bureau's broader goal of applying Canada's competition laws in a transparent and predictable manner."
