Con Edison to Spotlight Corporate Giving by Lighting Clock Tower Blue & Green

NEW YORK, NY--(Marketwire - Feb 24, 2012) - The iconic clock tower atop Con Edison's Manhattan headquarters will glow blue and green Monday in celebration of International Corporate Philanthropy Day.

The company will light the clock tower at 4 Irving Place in blue and green from 5 p.m. to midnight to mark efforts companies all over the world make to improve quality of life.

"We are honored to participate in International Corporate Philanthropy Day," said Frances A. Resheske, senior vice president for Public Affairs at Con Edison. "We are privileged to power the world's greatest city and we try to reciprocate every day by helping the communities we serve."

Con Edison has a tradition of contributing to and maintaining the social, cultural and economic vitality of the communities it serves. The company partners with hundreds of organizations in New York City and Westchester County whose programs illustrate Con Edison's dedication to strong and sustainable communities.

The company focuses its contributions on five areas: education, environment, civics, community and arts and culture.

Con Edison sponsors the Teatown Trails Green Stewardship Program and annual Night in the Woods Benefit, which help more than 10,000 hikers and 14,000 school children, adults, and families connect with nature each year. Teatown Lake Reservation, with nearly 900 acres of nature in Westchester County, is sustaining wildlife, plants, and habitats for future generations.

Employees volunteer with high school students in the Fresh Air Fund's Career Awareness Program, providing the students with information about career opportunities at Con Edison.

Con Edison supports Queens Theatre's diverse programming at this premier performing arts venue. To foster greater cultural awareness and appreciation, the Theatre presents and produces programs featuring international, national, and local artists.

And Con Edison employees serve on 18 YMCA of Greater New York local boards.

Con Edison supports hundreds of nonprofit organizations in New York City and Westchester County to strengthen neighborhoods, sustain communities and improve lives. These philanthropic efforts support the arts, environment, and important educational initiatives in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics. Many of Con Edison's 14,000 employees share a personal commitment to the region's vitality through their own volunteer efforts and also choose to support education by utilizing the company's matching gifts program.
